This brand of premium cigars is produced in Cuba and the Dominican Republic, Habanos SA and General Cigar companies respectively. Only the finest tobacco is used in the production of these cigars harvested from first-class tobacco fields in the Cuban Vuelta Arriba region. The tobacco used in the manufacturing process is different from other kinds of tobacco used for most Cuban cigars - for a smoother taste it undergoes a third fermentation process in special barrels. Cohiba cigars are quite unique because of their history - they were first made personally for Fidel Castro and the highest-ranking officials in his government. Only many years later Castro decided to make the cigars available for commercial distribution - it happened in 1982. The cigars were originally manufactured in a former diplomatic mansion in the suburbs of Havana with just 5 people working there. Later, however, other factories were added as the cigar because very popular with both experienced and starting smokers. Because of the additional round of fermentation the cigars have very smooth taste and full body with some hint of black pepper appearing after the first several draws.
